Ubuntu Certified Professional

The Ubuntu Certified Professional (UCP) is a training certification based on the LPI level 1 certification. To earn the UCP, candidates are required to pass the LPI 101, LPI 102 and the Ubuntu 199 exams. Exams can be taken in any order. This course prepares students for the Ubuntu 199 exam. This five day, hands-on course will provide participants with the skills they need to deploy and configure Ubuntu desktops and server within the office. It introduces participants to the basic skills required of Ubuntu System Administrators. Scenario-based exercises guide participants on how to select appropriate solutions and tools for their organisation. Duration: 5 Days, full time The certification tests student's ability to:

  • Install and configure Ubuntu systems
  • Perform routine administration tasks: boot and shut down the system, manage user accounts and file systems, and maintain system security
  • Configure network connectivity and key network services

  • Work productively at the Linux command line

Who should attend? The course has been designed for junior-to-intermediate level system administrators working in organisations which are about to, or have already, deployed Ubuntu desktop and servers in the office. It is most appropriate for system administrators with experience in other Linux operating systems who wish to add Ubuntu to their skill set. Programmers, and other IT professionals who wish to add Ubuntu system administration to their portfolio will also benefit. Ubuntu Exams

In order to become an Ubuntu Certified Professional, you must successfully complete the LPI101, 102 and Ubuntu 199 exams. These can be written in any order and you do not have to register for a course in order to sit any of the exams. A candidate already holding a valid LPI level 1 certification will only be required to pass the Ubuntu 199 exam. The Ubuntu Certified Professional Certification exam (as well the pre-requisite LPI exams) are available at all Thomson Prometric and Pearson VUE testing centers worldwide. Please note that you need to register and obtain an LPI ID before taking the Ubuntu or LPI exams for the first time. Please have your LPI ID ready before registering for an exam, and bring your LPI ID and a current photo ID to the testing center. Also note that you will not be permitted to bring a computer, books, camera or cell phone into the testing facility. Please take note of the following Ubuntu exam retake policy:

  • Anyone taking the Ubuntu exam for the first time must wait at least one week before re-taking.
  • Anyone who takes the Ubuntu exam a second (and subsequent) time must wait at least 90 days before re-taking.
  • Anyone who passes the Ubuntu exam may not retake that exam for at least two years.
